Friday, June 12th was my last day of classes in high school. Yes, it is pretty awesome that school's over but I am kind of sad that it's really over for me. No more songs on the intercom that tells us to change classes, no more meetings during every lunch hour, no more early mornings to school and no more seeing my awesome friends 5 days a week anymore. It really is a bit depressing...
I remember the first day of high school, I did something really stupid. I had not ridden on public transit in over at least 7 years and I had no idea how the stops and bus numbers worked. So I ended up walking home, it was around 30 min.
In Grade 10, I met my Asian gang where we would always chill in our "emo" corner by the Chemistry room and our lockers and chill in the dance room at lunch times. I met so many new friends and still kept in touch with my old ones.
I remember the good times in Chemistry classes in Grade 11, all the jokes my teacher would crack and all the times I've spent working on the school newspaper and yearbook.
This year's dance show was the best! The dance my friend, Dan and I choreographed turned out to be awesome and I am happy that I ended dance in high school with a great show.
I achieved so much in Grade 12 - became Miss Teen Alberta, received the Principal's Award (contributed over 720 to the school), received a Distinction in Track & Field, got 3rd place in Hurdles and 5th place in 100m at Divisionals, got nominated for an Athletic Award, and received a Business Management Distinction Award.
There are so many memories I've had in High School; it will take me a whole day to write everything down and probably have OnSugar tell me I've exceed my word limit (if there was one).
High School was definitely the most memorable and fun time of my life. I am going to miss everyone so much and will never forget all the memories.
Next year, I will be in Toronto at the University of Toronto Scarborough campus, ready to take on a new stage in my life, meet new people while keep in touch with my old ones.
All the best to the Grads of 2009! We did it! =) Best of luck next year!

Now, at hand are diploma exams. I have already written my ELA 30-1 Part A and my Social Studies 30 Part A. Next week, I will be tackling the Physics 30, ELA 30-1 Part B and Social Studies Part B. After all my exams, High School will be officially over for me.
Got to study hard!

On Friday, June 5, I attended Jack Zhang's 18th birthday dinner at Q Haute. Jack is a wonderful and talented dancer. His freestyling and bboying stunned me! It was a pleasure to have met him and all his friends. I have never met Jack until Friday. We got to know of each other through my mom's friend. I had heard that he was a dancer and organizes many events. So the night before meeting him, I talked with him on msn regarding an event we should organize together. On July 10th, Jack and I are hosting a Dance & Performances Party. Details are still being discussed but I hope that everyone can support us!
Last night, June 6, I attended the Calgary Taiwanese Canadian Association's Dragon Boat Festival Dinner where I got the opportunity to fundraise for Free the Children charity and perform my Chinese ribbon dance. It was such a great experience to meet so many Taiwanese people - young and old. There was a little girl I had met there who said she would always go on YouTube to watch pageants. All night, she followed me around asking me questions. I encouraged her to keep learning Mandarin and told her she should try out pageantry when she's older. She was such a cute little girl!
I really want to give thanks to the Calgary Taiwanese Canadian Association and Ms. Betsy Day (Taifen Betsy Day Professional Corp) for giving me this opportunity. She has helped me out so much with my fundraising and sponsorship - a total of $1500, thank you so much!
This is what I love about being Miss Teen Alberta - World 2009. I get to attend many events, be a role model and have a positive effect on others. If I win Miss Teen Canada - World 2009, I will be able to do all of this on even a greater scale!
Other events I have attended in the past as Miss Teen Alberta - World 2009:
World Vision's 30 Hour Famine Rock the Change 04.03.09
This event was the wrap up party for the 30 Hour Famine. I have been participating in the 30 Hour Famine all three years and every year was a great success and experience. This year, I got to be one of the MCs at the wrap up party where I thanked all the sponsors of the event and introduced the last speaker, Allison Springer. It was awesome to see all the people who attended, all those who raised money and support such a great cause! In the end, I had helped raise $450!
Empty Bowls 05.03.09
Empty Bowls is a CFYC project that calls upon the Calgary community to raise awareness on the issue of youth homelessness. Guests at the event are treated to a simple meal of homemade soup, bread and dessert along with entertainment. All proceeds from ticket sales are awarded to a youth serving agency, Yahoo Youth Housing, a program through the Canadian Red Cross that helps homeless and at-risk youth with their housing and basic needs.
They usually have two celebrity soup scoopers at the event and I was one of them. I had appeared on Global News and had so much fun!
Conoco Phillips Youth of Distinction Awards May 9, 2009
The Conoco Phillips Youth of Distinction Awards is an annual celebration that recognizes youth 13 – 18 years for the remarkable ways they have chosen to live their lives.
I handed out awards to the winners and gift bags to the nominees. This was another great CFYC event! Congrats to all the award winners!! It is amazing to see so many youth that contribute to our community!
Sport Chek Mother's Day Run & Walk 05.10.09
I participated in this year's Mother's Day 5km walk, where I jogged and walked with Sarah Striga, Miss Teen Southern Alberta. After the race, I had helped hand out gift bags to the little kids who attend the Little Legs race.
The money raised this year is going to the Calgary Health Trust aiming at the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit and Special Care Nurseries. It will be divided amongst the Peter Lougheed, Rockyview and Foothills Hospitals to buy specialized equipment. It was spectacular to see so many people of all ages supporting such a great cause!

It's already the month of June. The week of the Miss Teen Canada - World pageant is getting closer and I'm filled with excitement and nerves.
As things are wrapping up in school and diplomas starting soon, I have to balance my pageant training, events, and fundraising with my school work, involvements and studying. I have so much to do in so little time!
But regardless of my stress level at the moment, I am really looking forward to the competition! The website looks amazing - if you haven't yet, please become a VIP member on the Miss Teen Canada - World website so when it comes to vote for the People's Choice Award, I hope I can receive your support!
It looks like it will be a tough competition; all the finalists are so well-rounded, each with their unique qualities and personalities. In a month, I will be meeting everyone and I am really looking forward to this intense experience!
As far as preparations go, I feel confident in my runway walks and after a few sessions on Interview, I should be ready to go for the competition portion. As for evening gowns and cocktail dresses...well I need to get my dress altered but it looks stunning and I will look into my cocktail dresses soon ha-ha.
Fundraising for Free the Children charity is going great! If you haven't yet, please support me by contributing any amount online!
That's it for today, I should get studying!
Pce out, rock on and all that jazz! =)

On May 22, 2009 was my High School graduation! That day was such a memorable and exciting day for me!
After 12 years of schooling, I have finally crossed the stage!
My whole family attended my graduation. My dad and sister flew from Shanghai and my brother, my sister in law and my niece flew from Taiwan. I'm so happy that my whole family is together in Calgary!
So early in the morning, we had our graduation ceremony which consisted of the Class of 2009 crossing the stage and speeches from our Principal, Dave Rodney, a Trustee from Calgary Board of Education, our Valedictorian, Student President, Honouring Class President and me introducing the HCP.
Crossing the stage was a huge blur - it happened so fast! After I sat back down, it was hard for me to remember what I exactly just did. How did I pose for the camera, what did I say to the people I shook hands with, etc.
Then came my introdcution. I was so nervous but I managed to calm myself down and it turned out pretty good. Everyone laughed at my jokes and joined me in singing Happy Birthday to our Honouring Class President. It was a really memorable moment. Looks like I'll have stories to tell my grandkids!

After the ceremony, things were hectic - getting crosages & bootners, making sure all the plans were settle (limos, pictures) and then my hair appointment. In the end, everything was nearly perfect for the banquet.
Thanks to my friend's mom, my hair was beautifully done up. The limo was in great condition, the scenary at my community lake was perfect. Everyone loved my dress and I had a really considerate date!
The food at the banquet was 'alright', but what can you expect? Haha The best parts were speeches from the Class Historian, the Grad video, taking pictures and just having fun with my friends.
To me, graduation isn't just about moving onto another step in life. Graduation brings the family together, an excuse to dress up and have dinner with friends. It brings back memories and creates new ones. I am glad that my graduation turned out awesome and I will remember that day for a very long time!

Becoming Miss Teen Canada isn't just about winning nor having a title. It's about the experiences you achieve through the process in reaching your success, the people you meet along the way, the friendships and memories you create, and most importantly, what you can end up doing in the end with your title to make a difference.

As Miss Teen Alberta, I have been able to use my title to raise more money, to invite more people to attend an event, meet new people, and to influence others in a positive way. With a Miss Teen Canada title, I will be able to do more of that and on a larger scale, nationally and internationally.
I want to become Miss Teen Canada because being only at 5"2, I want to be a role model to those who have been told they are too short to ever succeed in this industry and had their dreams shattered. I want to show them and tell them that yes, height may matter sometimes, but there are still so many other opportunities out there that you can succeed in. All you have to do is try and never give up. Every opportunity is a possibility and you can turn that possibility into reality.
What is so special about being Miss Teen Canada this year is that she gets to travel to a third world country to help out personally. I have wanted to do that for a long time. I know there are those programs out there which allows youth to participate but having immigrated from Taiwan, I spend a lot of my summer times visiting my relatives, so I never have the opportunity. I know I will do it eventually, it's only a matter of time. But by becoming Miss Teen Canada, I will be able to accomplish my goal a lot faster.

Another reason why Miss Teen Canada is so important to me is the gift that I will be providing to many people. I will be providing a great gift to my family, friends and sponsors. This gift is a return for their amazing support and contributions. Also, I am providing a gift to those I will be helping out and positively affecting along the way. And, another gift for myself for I will have accomplished some of my goals and dreams - becoming Miss Teen Canada, positively affecting others and traveling to a developing country to help out.
